The Fourth F Your Plan is Graded On
11/3/2026
For years, plan sponsors were told to watch the "three Fs": Funds, Fees, and Fiduciary. They matter. But a plan with excellent funds is still failing if too few employees invest in them. A plan with rock-bottom fees is still failing if it produces rock-bottom results. And a plan built to minimize fiduciary liability is still failing if people can't afford to retire. In 401(k) Architecture, Troy Redstone adds a fourth F that outranks the others: Fruit. "Every good tree bears good fruit... by their fruit you will recognize them" (Matthew 7:17). A healthy plan should naturally produce healthy retirement outcomes: more employees participating, saving enough, and retiring on time with dignity. That's the test we use with every plan we serve. Funds, fees, and fiduciary process are the means; participant outcomes are the measure. Do you know what kind of fruit your plan is bearing? We can help you find out with a simple review of participation, savings rates, and retirement readiness across your workforce.
